Google Classrooms

A huge thank you to all parents and carers for their support with our new online learning!

I have put on my morning post about my expectations for our online classroom so I wanted to make you aware. There is an overload of comments which are unnecessary at times – there is only one of me to answer the comments and I am receiving a lot every day that don’t need to be sent. I have suggested a maximum of three comments every day, from each child, unless they are really stuck on something. I have also asked them to think carefully about how their comments are worded. Thank you for your help with this!

As always if you have any queries or concerns about anything please don’t hesitate to get in touch. Thank you.

This weeks learning…

This week in primary four we have been concentrating on three curriculum areas. Within these areas I have set tasks linked to targets and hopefully the children have managed to successfully achieve some of these targets.

In maths we have been learning about length. We have been estimating and measuring in centimetres and for some children in non-standard measurements. We have also had a go at converting millimetres to centimetres. In numeracy we have also been working on our times tables through TT rock stars.

In literacy we have all managed to access Google hangouts and had the chance to take turns to talk and listen. As the weeks progress and the lockdown continues it’s important that we are able to listen carefully and to have conversations with our friends through Hangouts. Well done to everybody for managing this. In writing this week I set the task of an imaginative story, revising all last term’s targets – accurate punctuation, and exciting story starter, interesting openers to our sentences and a clear logical story set out in three paragraphs. We will continue to revise these targets over the coming weeks. We have also been learning to spell the long u sound in our spelling words.

In health and well-being we have been thinking about our emotions and how we are coping in these difficult times.

Well done to everybody for making an amazing start on Google classroom and our online learning. It’s been a huge learning experience for me too, and I know I have made a few mistakes here and there! All we can continue to do is try our best! Well done everybody! Have a well deserved, relaxing weekend.

Last week as part of our developing the young workforce week we had a visit from Mark Beattie, systems engineer, to share his work with the children. It was all very tricky sounding to me but the children were very inspired by it!
